Yoga is the practice of paying attention.

Slowing down for enough time to pause + reset.

Listening to what you actually need in the moment -
body, heart, mind, spirit.

Yoga is more than asana - or physical poses. Yoga incorporates
Pranayama (breath work)
Meditation (intentional silence + stillness)
Svadhyaya (self-study + awareness)
Tapas (discipline)
+ many more limbs of yoga.

Why trauma-informed yoga?

Trauma-informed yoga approaches the practice of yoga with
consideration of the effects that trauma has on a person’s
brain + nervous system + body + spirit + heart.

You’ve likely experienced some degree of trauma at one or more points of your life. That could look like “little t” traumas - a stressful move, career changes, financial worries - or “big T” traumas - sexual assault, physical abuse, ongoing oppression. If you aren’t able to take the appropriate time + space to heal from this trauma, you may start to notice its effect on you - body, mind, heart, spirit.

A trauma-informed practice often includes breath work + slower, grounding postures + intentional/ inviting language rather than commands. Students are offered multiple options throughout class so they may feel safe during + after the practice.
